Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know before bringing a Tresani into your home — from how the wash works to installation, running costs and warranty. Still unsure? We're real people, and we're happy to help.
The Essentials
What is a smart toilet, and how is it different from a standard toilet?
An all-in-one intelligent toilet with a warm-water bidet wash, heated seat, warm-air drying and an automatic lid — replacing the need for toilet paper and adding a level of hygiene and comfort that has been standard in Japan and across Asia for decades.
How does the wash and dry work?
A self-cleaning stainless-steel nozzle delivers a warm-water wash you can adjust for temperature and pressure, followed by gentle warm-air drying — all controlled from the side panel or the wireless remote.
Are smart toilets suitable for people with mobility or accessibility needs?
They can be particularly helpful. Hands-free features such as the motion-activated lid and automatic flush reduce the need to bend or twist, while the bidet wash and air dryer allow you to clean without manual wiping — a real benefit for anyone managing arthritis, injury or reduced dexterity. The wireless remote makes everything easy to operate from a seated position. Tresani designs with accessibility in mind, though it isn't medical equipment; for home adaptations, an occupational therapist can advise.
Installation & Power
Do I need a professional to install it?
Yes — installation should be carried out by a qualified plumber and electrician. Each model needs a water supply, a waste outlet and a fused electrical spur nearby. See our installation guidance for what to prepare.
Do I need a separate cistern?
No bulky cistern required. Every Tresani has its own water tank built into the unit, so there's no separate cistern to mount on the wall or box in behind tiling. It keeps the silhouette clean and minimal and frees up space — a real advantage in smaller bathrooms — while the built-in tank still guarantees a full, powerful flush, even where water pressure is low.
Will it work with UK water pressure?
Yes. Every Tresani has a built-in water tank, guaranteeing a full, powerful flush even in low-pressure homes.
What happens in a power cut?
A backup battery provides up to 50 flushes, and power-off flushing means the toilet always works when you need it.
Living With It
How much does it cost to run?
Typically £50–£80 a year in electricity for a household of four — often offset by the savings on toilet paper. There's more detail in our cost to buy and run guide.
How do I keep it clean?
The nozzle self-cleans and UV-sterilises between uses, and the rimless bowl leaves nowhere for grime to hide. In hard-water areas, occasional descaling keeps everything performing at its best.
