Installing a Japanese smart toilet is more straightforward than most people expect — but it does need a professional. Here's exactly what's involved.
Do you need a plumber to install a smart toilet?
Yes. A smart toilet needs both a water connection and an electricity supply, so it's a job for a qualified plumber and electrician — not a DIY fit. The good news: for a standard bathroom it's typically a half-day job.
What does a smart toilet need?
- A water supply — a standard cold feed to the unit.
- A waste outlet — connecting to your existing soil pipe.
- A fused electrical spur — a switched, fused connection near the toilet (an electrician can fit one). A smart toilet should not run from an extension lead.
Every Tresani also includes a built-in water tank, which guarantees a full, confident flush even in low-pressure UK homes.
Wall-hung vs floor-standing: does fitting differ?
Floor-standing units are the simpler swap — they sit on the floor and connect much like a conventional toilet, ideal for replacing an existing one without major work. Wall-hung units float on a concealed support frame built into the wall, with the cistern hidden behind — spectacular, space-saving, but best fitted during a renovation or new build. More on choosing in our wall-hung vs floor-standing guide.
How long does it take?
For a like-for-like floor-standing replacement, often just a few hours. A wall-hung install with a new frame takes longer, especially with tiling — plan it into a wider bathroom project.
Delivery
These are premium, heavy products — around 50kg each — delivered on a pallet or by specialist courier to your kerbside. Have two people on hand to move it, and keep the original packaging until installation is complete.
Before you book your installer
Make sure the unit has arrived and been inspected first — never book fitting before the goods are safely with you. Each Tresani comes with a detailed installation manual for your plumber, plus our UK support team if they have questions.
